Wow! There’s so many great options for staying in Greece. I have always wanted to see Natural History Museum – Gaia Centre. It’s really historic and very interesting. I’m quite excited to take photographs of the place. I hope to see it soon.

This brings back great memories of Athens for me. I think I stayed in the Kolonaki area, your pictures ring a bell. I honestly didn’t like the Piraeus neighborhood so much, it didn’t feel so safe, but that’s just me. I’ve friends in Kisisia and it’s so pretty! A bit out of the way, but more authentic Athens for me.

There are so many great options in Athens, that one would seriously go crazy finalizing a place to stay 😛 But when I do visit Athens, I would love to stay in Plaka or Makrygianni – they look like the perfect pockets of the city to experience its culture and rich heritage from one place 🙂

I have been to Athens and stayed in Monastriki and Kolonaki neighborhoods and love both of them. As one is historical and another one is good for shopping. Some hotel stays also have the view of Acropolis from their rooftop dining which I admired a lot. I will check other neighborhoods too which you have mentioned in this article.

This is a great guide as it focuses on the neighbourhood rather than the hotels. It’s a very important factor that determines itinerary, budget and ease of conveyance for you. Plaka looks like a great place to base oneself.

Great post. It brings back great memories of our visit in 2012. We stayed in Plaka and loved the location, so pretty, easy to find a cafe and restaurant with great food. If we return we will certainly look at your recommendations. We like to try out different areas when we return.

I visited this city multiple times in the past and I stayed in Monastiraki Square and it was great because it’s so close to most monuments. Exarchia is awesome too; one can get so many affordable accommodation options over there.
