Iceland Camper Rentals Benefits
Experiencing Iceland by campervan is one of those magical ways of exploring the beautiful land of Fire and Ice. Hiring a campervan in Iceland allows you the flexibility to explore any way you choose.
And if you choose to explore Iceland in the Summer, you will be blessed with 22 hour days meaning you can rock up in your little Iceland camper rental at many of Iceland’s beautiful waterfalls and half that all to yourself in addition to many of the sights on the Ring Road.
The advantage of having a rental is that you can continue exploring until the sun sets at midnight. We managed to see the beautiful Moss covered lava fields in Iceland without a soul around, we had Seljalandsfoss to ourselves when we rolled up at just before midnight and still plenty of light around. Although hiring a campervan in Iceland can be a little pricey for some, its truly an amazing way to work your way through and Iceland itinerary.

4×4 Iceland Camper Rentals
The 4×4 rentals in Iceland are perfect for taking on Iceland‘s tough and challenging highland roads but if you have a moderate Iceland itinerary then in my opinion you won’t really need a 4X4 camper rental in Iceland. You will only need 4×4 campers if you doing some serious of grid stuff and know that specific location require a 4×4 van.
Also, note that Iceland 4×4 camper rentals are not cheap so there is no point in renting one when you can do with the normal ones. There are a couple of rental companies that do 4WD campers in Iceland.
Some of these are Land Rover camper rentals in Iceland as well as 4×4 Dodge camper rentals in Iceland. Below are some to the rental companies with 4X4 campers. Whether you are using a normal campervan or a 4×4, exploring Europe in a campervan, especially in a country like Iceland allows you to explore at your own pace.

Great informative read. This made me realize that there are lots of different aspects that I didn’t consider. Getting the cheapest price may not be the cheapest in the long run when it comes to these types of rentals! Not sure if there are many Iceland camper rental automatic transmissions as I cannot drive a manual.
Bianca
Glad you found it useful. As for as getting automatic campervans in Iceland, there are some but not many. If this is your preference then I would advise you to book well in advance.

Great post, I was in Iceland last year and i will be visiting again soon but this time with my entire family. From this post and due to the size of my family, the Campervan seems like a good idea, I have noted the price and the entire package that comes with it and put them in perspective while planning. Thanks a lot for sharing.

I have been looking for Iceland camper rental reviews and certainly glad I stumbled on your blog considering you explored Iceland by campervan….Though we don’t hope to have awry moments, sometimes they are inevitable and can spoil the fun of touring. In cases where a campervan breaks down, are there measures to prevent this from even happening? We were also looking to do an Iceland camper rental 4×4 but they are super expensive. Do you know if we can get a discount with some of these?
Bianca
This was exactly one of the reasons why I want to do a post on Iceland campervan rentals as we found it a little difficult to narrow down things and Iceland camper rental costs. When it comes to breakdowns, thank goodness we didn’t experience any of that. I am used to car rentals when I travel so I make sure that I am covered by insurance. Also because some roads are gravel and the weather is unpredictable, I would strongly recommend you get insurance cover. Regarding the discount, for cheap Iceland campervan rentals there are low seasons when some companies offer 30% off rentals but not sure this applies to 4×4 campervans.

A great guide to camper van rentals in Iceland! This is something I’ve been checking out and have been finding it hard to compare the best deals and type of rental I will need. This guide has helped a lot with working out the best rental to go with. Thanks for sharing.

Great tips- I’ve read that finding lodging can be difficult as things are so spread out so this is a great option. We’re going to rent a camper van in Hawaii (for our family of four!) so we’ll see if we enjoy it because this sounds like a good option for if we ever get to visit Iceland!

Iceland is my favourite place in this world. I haven’t been back beyond the airport since 2013, but I’m dying to get back there. I love the idea of using a camper van to get around! Did you ever struggle wit hthe cold?

Super cool! I’ve been thinking about this option of renting a camper van to travel Iceland. I suppose that’s only available in summer as winter might be difficult for unexperienced drivers. It’s the best way to enjoy the country with maximum freedom.

We have planned Iceland in June this year and thinking of renting rent a car. I didn’t know about the cheap camper rental options. It sounds like a great option. Saved it for later.

Yes, this looks like a perfect way to explore Iceland. I have never driven a camper though. Hope to go with a friend, who is experienced in it.

It’s amazing what they make from these little VW Caddy’s, Dacia Dokkers and Citroen Berlingo… When I was in Iceland I was surprised by the amount of people travelling with them. I even thought to make something like this for myself back home!
