You have no doubt heard of Victoria Falls, but beyond this Zambian natural wonder are a further 14 waterfalls in Zambia and just as beautiful and some of the most beautiful of African waterfalls can be found in Zambia. Granted not as big as Victoria Falls but worth every effort to see them. Also if you have been wondering how many waterfalls are found in Zambia, then wonder no more as your not only get a list of waterfalls in Zambia, you also get names of waterfalls in Zambia and where they can be found on the map.
One of the 7 wonders of the world and the largest falling sheet of water is of course in my home country; Zambia. Victoria Falls is one of the biggest waterfalls in Africa and one of the most beautiful sights you will ever lay your eyes one. The whole world knows it by the name of Victoria Falls, but that’s not its original name. One that locals from either side of the falls use, whether you are visiting from the Zambian or Zimbabwean side.
This beautiful natural wonder is referred to by its original name of Mosi-ya-Tunya. This translates to “Smoke that Thunders”. If you visit while it’s in full force from the rainy season you will understand where that name might have come from, as the smoke(mist) created from the sheer force of flow can be seen sometimes 30 miles away. With this mist, sometimes I would recommend seeing Victoria falls mid-season or towards the rain season. This is because the visibility is poor with all the mist in the air. Not to mention you will get drenched!

Thanks for posting! We're going to Ethiopia for the month of Ramadan and hope to get here to see the waterfalls. My husband is considering a cruise to do it. Any tips on travel between the countries?
Bianca Malata
Ethiopia is nowhere near Zambia but the good thing is that you can get flights from Ethiopia to Zambia. Once you are in Zambia the world is your oyster. You have all of these falls to chase plus markets, safaris as well as neighouring countries like Botswana and Namibia which are only a few hours drive or 1-2hours on a flight. Great weather too!

Oh wow, so many beautiful waterfalls! How many days does one need to see all the 14/17 ones? Which one's your favorite?
Bianca Malata
Oh at least a month to do it properly. We do have internal flights if you have that budget and can do them quicker than a month but otherwise taking it slow and using various transportation including buses, trains and flights maybe shave that done to 3 weeks…careful though. Once you set your eyes on them you might not want to leave 😛

WOW! I had no idea there were this many waterfalls in Zambia. I only ever hear of people talking about the big three. I have a lot of planning ahead of me! I work with a photography group and the company is paying for our trip to go get shots of the waterfalls. They weren’t specific on which ones so I started doing a bit of research. The article here was very helpful for me. If we were only able to visit 6 of the 14, which would you recommend?
Bianca
Yeap, Zambia has so many hidden gems. The Victoria Falls is not the only show in town.
